When Defense News recently reported that US State Department officials are trying to convince foreign nations to sign on to a new set of guidelines for the export and use of armed drones, they turned to Avascent Analytics for data. According to Avascent Analytics, 15 foreign nations have either announced intentions to procure armed drones or have already put forth money to do so. Further, Avascent Analytics note those 15 countries will spend an estimated $13.4 billion from FY15 to FY21 – a number that could easily rise if other countries decide to procure weaponized systems as well, or if those 15 nations increase their planned buy.
