The Planetary Society’s Jason Davis recently analyzed the Russian space program after the latest in a long line of failures of Russian rockets. To investigate the reasons behind the string of mishaps, the writer spoke to space experts including David Belcher, analysis manager with Avascent Analytics. David argued that, due to larger economic pressures, Russia isn’t able to make large-scale education investments. He added, “The effect of that is that they have a skills mismatch in certain industrial sectors, that appears to include the launch industry… The fact that we’ve seen several instances of Russian rockets not working as designed the past few years seems to support that thesis.”
