John Niehaus serves Avascent’s Aerospace & Defense clients on a spectrum of issues of importance to executive management including: competitive strategy, growth strategy, major change and business transformation, portfolio management, strategic investments, business performance improvement, globalization, and government defense market dynamics in both risk and opportunity exploitation. He has more than twenty five years of A&D industry experience and military service.
Prior to Avascent, John was a Senior Expert with McKinsey & Company, in the Firm’s Global Aerospace & Defense practice. Prior to McKinsey, John was a Principal with Booz Allen Hamilton, where he led the West Coast component of Booz’s Aerospace & Defense practice. Previously, he served as an industry executive at Raytheon as Vice President of Commercial Ventures and Director of Corporate Development, and at GenCorp Aerojet as Director of M&A, Investor Relations and Strategic Business Development.
John began his career in the United States Navy, where he served as a Naval Flight Officer and E-2C Hawkeye Mission Commander, including advanced air combat tactics training at Navy Fighter Weapons School, “TOPGUN.” He also served three years on Capitol Hill as Liaison Officer, U.S. House of Representatives, within the Secretary of the Navy’s Office of Legislative Affairs.
John holds a Bachelor of Science Engineering—Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. With over twenty-five years of experience in the Aerospace & Defense field, John continues to dedicate himself to the vital role that it plays in National Security.
