Professor John Louth is senior research fellow and director for defense, industries and society at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies. He served as an officer in the Royal Air Force for sixteen years before working as a consultant and program director extensively throughout the defense and energy sectors, employed in both the BMT Group and QinetiQ. His work has included the audit and governance of the UK strategic deterrent, the implementation of risk-based governance regimes into energy businesses and UK Ministry of Defence and industry partnering initiatives.
John spent part of his career in the Middle East engaged with separate national programs to develop commercial and defense capabilities in a number of Gulf countries. Professor Louth has also worked as a senior adviser to the European Defence Agency on the development of pan-European procurement policies and practices. He supervises PhD students at the University of Roehampton Business School in London and guest lectures at Exeter University, King’s College, London and University College, London. Professor Louth is also a specialist adviser to the House of Commons Defence Select Committee and a non-executive adviser to NDI Ltd. John’s work is published across a broad spectrum of outlets and he is a regular commentator to BBC, ITN, Sky News and Aljazeera networks.
