Laurie Sprung’s Bio

Laurie Sprung, Ph.D. joins Avascent as a Senior Advisor to the Health & Citizen Services practice after more than 20 years advising health care clients (provider, payer, and industry) on a wide range of strategic and operational needs. Areas of particular expertise include consumerism in health care, improving patient access and experience, population health management, telehealth, and the overall transition to value.

Dr. Sprung spent the majority of her career at the Advisory Board Company (now Optum) in a variety of roles, most significantly as the founder and (former) leader of the Value Based Care consulting practice, where she developed the preeminent national practice in the areas of value-based strategy program development, operational management, and accountable payment initiatives, with a focus on developing scaled and effective programs that deliver strategic and economic ROI under the continually evolving models for value-based payment. Under her leadership the practice completed more than 250 engagements across more than 40 states, including multiple payer-provider and payer-provider-state alliances.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Sprung was a consultant with McKinsey & Company as well as practicing as a Clinical Psychologist at McLean Hospital, the largest psychiatric affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital and the #1 ranking psychiatric hospital in the country.

Education

Dr. Sprung holds a Master of Public Health in health care management from Harvard University, Ph.D. and M.A. in clinical psychology from Syracuse University, and a B.A. from Cornell University.
