Avascent Welcomes Brooke Owens Fellow for Second Year

Avascent Commits to Effort Addressing Historical Underrepresentation of Women in Aviation and Space Exploration

WASHINGTON, DC – Avascent, a strategy and management consultancy serving aerospace, defense and other government-driven markets, is pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, it will welcome a Fellow from the Brooke Owens Fellowship Program for a summer work placement. The Program, founded in 2016 to honor the memory of beloved space industry pioneer and accomplished pilot D. Brooke Owens, is in its second year of awarding internships and senior mentorship to exceptional undergraduate women seeking careers in aviation or space exploration.

Avascent is among 30 host organizations in the aviation or space industries accepting 41 Fellows chosen for her technical excellence, creativity, commitment to service, and career growth potential. In addition to the paid summer work experience, each Fellow is paired with a senior aerospace professional to serve as her mentor. Avascent will host Skylar Eiskowitz, class of 2019 at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Mechanical Engineering.

“The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program aligns with our desire to see more women represented in aerospace,” said Steve Irwin, President of Avascent. “We are proud to be able to host a Fellow from the Brooke Owens Fellowship Program for a second year, and look forward to Skylar joining us in the summer.”

The Program was co-founded by Lori Garver, former Deputy Administrator of NASA and now General Manager at the Air Line Pilots Association, who said “This program was founded to provide early career experience and mentorship to collegiate women interested in aviation and space. The overwhelmingly positive response to the Fellowship from our 30 host organizations, mentors, alumni and volunteers demonstrates our collective recognition of the value these exceptional women can offer our industry.”
