Avascent Awarded President’s Volunteer Service Award

 In Company News

Washington, DC– Avascent, a leading aerospace, defense and government consultancy based in Washington, D.C., has been awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the Corporation for National & Community Service. Avascent won the award at the bronze group level which is awarded to companies who spent 200-499 hours last year on volunteer activity. The award is reflective of Avascent’s work with Service Never Sleeps, a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to mobilize young professionals to combat social justice issues through service and civic engagement.

As part of its work with Service Never Sleeps, Avascent worked with two local non-profits, The Josh Anderson Foundation, whose mission is to provide teenagers with the mental health education, resources and support so that they will never turn to suicide; and Changing Perceptions, whose goal is to create a life and career pathway for formerly incarcerated individuals that breaks the cycle of incarceration and intergenerational poverty. Avascent will continue partnering with Service Never Sleeps in 2018, working with the Josh Anderson Foundation again and DC Scores.

“We appreciate the acknowledgement of our efforts through Service Never Sleeps,” said Debbie Miller, Avascent Consultant and Partnership Organizer. “We are glad for the opportunity to help local nonprofit organizations through our consulting services, and this work is very important among our other charitable initiatives.”

Outside of Avascent’s work with Service Never Sleeps, Avascent holds additional initiatives including Days of Service throughout the year where Avascenturians volunteer with local nonprofits, and also “Casual for a Cause” where all Avascenturians pay $1 to wear casual clothes on Friday, which is donated to local charities.
