Julien Demotes-Mainard’s Bio
Julien Demotes-Mainard is a Director in Avascent’s Paris office. As such, his primary task is to manage projects on the international defense and security market.
Since joining Avascent in 2014, Julien has completed more than 70 engagements for A&D clients operating in a variety of positions across the value chain in the air, land and naval segments. He’s specialized in strategic transformation and organic/inorganic growth initiatives as well as international capture support (customer and competitive intelligence, market entry & retention, portfolio alignment, price-to-win) for platforms and sub-systems providers. Julien is a subject matter expert in military platforms, offensive and defensive systems, CONOPS, defense procurement and export issues. His experience also covers law enforcement and homeland security markets.
Prior to joining Avascent, Julien worked as a lecturer at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris and was a policy research associate at Sciences Po Toulouse. His professional background also encompasses TV/Film production and journalism/press relations in the US and in Europe.
Julien holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Montpellier (Summa Cum Laude). His research focused on US weapons acquisition and defense policy, and he was winner of the 2012 DAUAA competition with his publication on the RAH-66 termination.
Prior to pursuit of his PhD, he earned an MS in International Relations from Sciences Po Bordeaux. His final dissertation on the Strategic Defense Initiative received the French Air Force award for Best Master’s Thesis in 2009.
He also graduated from ESEC (Film School, Paris), and holds a BA in Fine Art from the University of Bordeaux. He speaks fluent English and French.
